The Bio Behavioral Institute has been at the forefront of scientifically supported treatment and research for over 40 years. Our staff has conducted pioneering research and published over 300 scientific articles, book chapters, and numerous books in our area of expertise. We provide state of the art treatment for obsessive compulsive related, anxiety, and mood disorders. Our unique intensive outpatient program allows individuals to make gains faster than standard weekly sessions. We are one of a handful of facilities nationwide who provide this type of treatment.
Each of our staff members is dedicated to providing the most advanced treatment in a nurturing and supportive environment. Every patient is evaluated thoroughly with attention given to the social, biological and psychological factors contributing to their current situation.
What We Offer:
Our goal is to meet each patient where they are. Our team recognizes that each person enters treatment with a unique life history. We will customize a treatment plan for your needs. We strongly believe in family and community involvement.
We strive to enhance your quality of life beyond your psychological condition. Our goal is to help you lead a fulfilling life based on your values and capabilities. We will support you every step of the way.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) refers to a number of treatment approaches designed to directly identify and target thought patterns and behaviors negatively contributing to one's daily life. Through the use of specific strategies and skills, individuals in CBT can make gains in short amounts of time. CBT is one of the most researched and effective psychological treatments available.
Our team believes in closely working with loved ones and community. We incorporate family coaching, psychoeducation, and parenting skills into treatment as appropriate. Family therapy can strengthen the skills necessary to improve communication, support, and reaction to a loved one's symptoms. We also offer ongoing family and marital therapy to address relationship difficulties.
Group therapy can be a valuable opportunity to learn new skills, to connect with others with similar struggles, and to practice the skills you have gained in your individual therapy. We offer ongoing groups, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a free monthly OCD support group, and time limited workshops in a variety of topics including parenting skills and improving communication in relationships.
We are one of the few treatment facilities in the country offering intensive out-patient treatment for obsessive compulsive related, anxiety, and mood disorders. Our pioneering intensive program was established in 1978 and has continued to expand and improve over the years. Unlike other programs, our treatment consists of individual sessions rather than group therapy.
We work closely with family, other agencies, and share patients with outside mental health professionals. Our staff will coordinate and update your other treatment providers to help you receive the most comprehensive treatment. Our dedicated staff communicates regularly to improve the quality of treatment we provide.
Our school refusal program is designed to help youth struggling to attend school on a regular basis. We conduct a comprehensive evaluation to determine the underlying cause of the child’s attendance difficulties, whether it may be separation anxiety, embarrassment of tics, or a fear of vomiting, to name a few. We determine the causes of the school refusal and directly target the child's symptoms. Our program offers home visits, family coaching, school visits, and collaboration with school personnel.
Our staff is available to lecture and conduct workshops at local agencies, schools, community centers, parent organizations, and support groups on a variety of topics in our area of expertise. Please contact us at (516) 487-7116 to request a speaker.
We offer home and out of office session to provide our patients with the hands on behavioral therapy that is often necessary to learn new skills and overcome one’s fears. Sessions outside of the office are designed to specifically target an individual’s difficulties. Sessions out of the office will be collaboratively designed with our patients during the course of therapy.
Our staff is trained in a variety of psychological testing methods based on the reason for the evaluation. Psychological assessment can be recommended to clarify a diagnosis by one of our psychologists, to develop an effective treatment plan, as a second opinion, for academic placement, and to identify factors which may impact treatment progress.
