Therapy at Bio Behavioral Institute
Bio Behavioral Institute offers proven therapy methods to help you not only manage and reduce symptoms, but also to help you get back to the life you deserve.

Our Therapy Approach
Groundbreaking Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Techniques
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) refers to a number of treatment approaches designed to directly identify and target thought patterns and behaviors negatively contributing to a person’s daily life. Through the use of specific strategies and skills, individuals in CBT can make major strides in a short amount of time.
Family-Centered Approach
Our team believes in working closely with loved ones and the community. We incorporate family coaching, psychoeducation, and parenting skills into treatment as appropriate. Family therapy can strengthen the skills necessary to improve communication, support, and response to a loved one's symptoms.
Group Therapy and Workshops
Group therapy can be a valuable opportunity to learn new skills, connect with others with similar struggles, and practice the skills gained in individual therapy. We offer ongoing groups, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a free monthly OCD support group, and time-limited workshops on a variety of topics, including parenting skills and improving communication in relationships.
Our Therapy Offerings

Intensive Program
Bio Behavioral is one of the few treatment facilities in the country offering intensive outpatient treatment for anxiety, obsessive-compulsive related, and mood disorders. We find that intensive programs work better than weekly sessions for many individuals, and this one-on-one care allows our clinicians to meet each person's unique treatment needs and goals.

Residential-Like Program
BBI offers individuals a whole-day program for those who need more intensive treatment than the one provided by the IOP. This program combines the three hours of individual IOP with many group exposure excercises, groups. and family intervention.

Psychiatric Collaboration
Many of our patients choose to add medications to their treatment plan. If you’re interested in seeking a psychiatric consultation, we collaborate with on-site psychiatrists and will work closely with them to build a coordinated treatment team.
If you already have an outside psychiatrist, our staff will be happy to consult with him or her to develop a plan that fits your needs best.

Psychological Assessment
There are many circumstances in which our professional staff may suggest testing at some point in the treatment process. Our staff is trained in a variety of psychological testing instruments, which may be utilized based on the reason for the evaluation.
Evaluations can be requested for some of the following reasons:
- To determine an appropriate diagnosis
- To generate appropriate and effective treatment plans
- To determine if a learning disability exists
- To clarify if a behavioral problem in school is due to psychological or learning problems
- If a neurological problem is suspected

Adjunct Approaches
Adjunct Approaches are different tools in our toolbelt that we might apply during your therapy sessions according to suitability.
We incorporate specific evidence-based approaches according to what will work best with your specific symptoms, diagnosis, and situation.
Some of these additional approaches include:
- ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)
- Readiness for Change
- Unified Protocol
- Compassion Therapy
- DBT

Individual Therapy
During your initial psychological consultation, our senior psychologists will help you develop a comprehensive treatment plan. We can provide you with individual psychological sessions of varying frequency to best meet your needs. We offer sessions anywhere from once a week up to our intensive outpatient program, which consists of multiple weekly sessions from 2-6 hours.

Family & Couples Therapy
Therapy can be a difficult process. The support and healthy involvement in the treatment process can positively impact treatment outcomes. Our staff strongly believes in incorporating family in sessions as necessary to provide coaching and education on the best way to support progress.
We offer:
- Family and Parenting Coaching
- Family Therapy
- Couples Therapy

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a scientifically supported treatment based on a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and Eastern meditation techniques. It was developed to initially help individuals with suicidal thoughts/behaviors and self-injury but has expanded to include several other conditions, including eating disorders, substance use, depression, and impulsive behaviors.
DBT is an effective skills-based treatment that enhances the quality of life for anyone struggling to manage intense emotions, such as anger, shame, anxiety, and depression. DBT is a good fit for individuals who don’t feel they are making adequate treatment gains in their current therapy or just feel stuck or unable to make positive changes in their lives.

Group Therapy
We offer a number of Group Therapy options in addition to 1:1 therapy sessions for specific diagnoses and treatment plans.
Our Group Therapy offerings:
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Group
- Skills groups meet weekly for 90 minutes for 24 weeks and are co-led by two DBT-trained therapists.
- Buried in Treasures Hoarding Workshop
- Our Buried in Treasures Workshop teaches members to identify the reasons for hoarding and learn strategies to change hoarding behaviors in a supportive and collaborative environment.
- Free Monthly OCD Support Group
- Our long-standing free OCD Support Group meets on a monthly basis. Friends and family welcome. This group is a supportive environment to meet others struggling with OCD and share common experiences.

School Refusal Program
Our specialized School Refusal Program’s approach prioritizes identifying the underlying cause of your child’s school refusal and working on treatment that helps them get back to school.
This tailored program provides structured support and proven school refusal interventions to help children return to school with confidence.
